founders note.

I am Indian and Japanese. Not in passport terms, in the way that actually matters. In how I see the world, what I value, what I notice, and what I refuse to accept.

Born in Japan, growing up Indian in Tokyo meant absorbing one of the most disciplined beauty cultures on earth while never quite being its intended audience. Japanese beauty philosophy is extraordinary; precision, ritual, long-term thinking. I lived inside it. I also watched it not see me. My undertones, my pigmentation, my skin. Present but unaccounted for.

That tension followed me through New York boardrooms and Tokyo pharmacies and every beauty shelf I've stood in front of. Eventually, I stopped waiting for someone else to solve it.

skinsei labs is my answer. The best of Japanese technology, built from the beginning for Indian skin. Not an afterthought. Finally, ours.

about us.

born in Japan, skinsei labs is a study in beauty, precision, and care.

skinsei labs began in a small room in Shibuya. Not in a lab, not with a team, not with funding. Just a founder who had grown up inside one of the world's most sophisticated beauty cultures and still couldn't find products made for her skin. At some point, frustration turned into curiosity. If the philosophy was right but the products weren't, what would happen if I just made them myself? So I did. Late nights, ingredient research, formulations tested on the only skin I had access to: mine. That first formula wasn't a business plan. It was a personal fix. But the more I spoke to other Indian women in Tokyo, in Mumbai, in every city in between, the more I realized the gap wasn't mine alone. What started in one room in Shibuya was always meant for something much larger.
The name skinsei is inspired by the Japanese word sensei, a teacher or master. It reflects a belief deeply rooted in Japanese culture: that mastery comes from focus, repetition, and respect for craft. skinsei labs follows this philosophy by choosing to do fewer things, but to do them well, refining every formula and every design with intention. Each product is guided by Japanese beauty science and design principles, built around precision, restraint, and long-term performance rather than trends.
skinsei labs was born from a simple question. If Japanese beauty standards work so beautifully across skin tones, why should access to that level of care be limited by geography? Our mission is to bring together Japanese beauty science, Indian skin needs, and thoughtful design to create products that are inclusive by design, not by trend.
Sustainability is not an afterthought at skinsei labs. The beauty industry creates products meant to be used quickly and discarded, leaving behind mirrors, metal, and packaging designed to outlive what they contain. skinsei labs was created to challenge that model. The aō Compact is a refillable system designed to be kept and reused. Inspired by Japanese design principles, it is meant to feel less like packaging and more like an object of beauty, something you choose to keep, not throw away.
