about us.
born in Japan, skinsei labs is a study in beauty, precision, and care.
skinsei labs was founded by a Indian woman born and raised in Japan, where beauty has long been treated as both discipline and ritual. Growing up between cultures shaped how she understood skincare and makeup. Beauty was never about trends or excess. It was about precision, thoughtful formulation, and products designed to work with the skin over time. These were the products she grew up using on her own Indian skin, long before inclusion became part of the global beauty conversation.
After several years working in New York, she felt increasingly disconnected from the life she wanted to build. What had always felt instinctive, a love for beauty, design, and detail, was calling for more space. Leaving her desk job was less a leap and more a return to something she had always known.
The name skinsei is inspired by the Japanese word sensei, a teacher or master. It reflects a belief deeply rooted in Japanese culture: that mastery comes from focus, repetition, and respect for craft. skinsei labs follows this philosophy by choosing to do fewer things, but to do them well, refining every formula and every design with intention.
Each product is guided by Japanese beauty science and design principles, built around precision, restraint, and long-term performance rather than trends.
skinsei labs was born from a simple question. If Japanese beauty standards work so beautifully across skin tones, why should access to that level of care be limited by geography?
Our mission is to bring together Japanese beauty science, Indian skin needs, and thoughtful design to create products that are inclusive by design, not by trend.
Sustainability is not an afterthought at skinsei labs. The beauty industry creates products meant to be used quickly and discarded, leaving behind mirrors, metal, and packaging designed to outlive what they contain. skinsei labs was created to challenge that model.
The aō Compact is a refillable system designed to be kept and reused. Inspired by Japanese design principles, it is meant to feel less like packaging and more like an object of beauty, something you choose to keep, not throw away.
